About Ma•dé
Ma•dé, meaning "second born" in Balinese, is an Indonesian restaurant in SoHo, NYC, created by Chef Cédric Vongerichten, Ochi Latjuba Vongerichten, and their partner Ezra J. William. Located at 22 Spring Street next to their first restaurant, Wayan.
Ma•dé offers a Padang-style dining experience inspired by West Sumatra’s bold flavors. The menu combines Indian and Middle Eastern influences, featuring dishes served family-style with gulai (curry), lado (chili), and bareh (rice). Designed by Linda Daniels LCD, Ma•dé's warm, airy interiors evoke Indonesia's coastal charm, with materials sourced from their family travels.
Ma•dé is an indonesian restaurant in New York, New York. It is listed at 22 Spring St Apt 12, New York, NY 10012, which places it among the local businesses of New York that residents and visitors turn to when they need this kind of service close by. Besides its main category, the business also describes itself as restaurant, so it may cover more than the name suggests.
Portion sizes and pricing swing widely across this group, from a $10 lunch bowl to a multi-course tasting menu at an upscale sushi counter, so checking recent reviews and photos is more useful than the price range alone. In New York, dinner reservations for popular izakaya, hot pot and Korean BBQ spots fill up on Friday and Saturday nights, so booking ahead or arriving at opening is worth it. Many restaurants across New York run daily lunch specials on weekdays that are not listed on the dinner menu, so it is worth asking. Halal, vegetarian and gluten-free options vary a lot by kitchen; call ahead if you have a dietary restriction rather than assuming the menu will note it.
The business lists hours on 7 days of the week. Typical hours are 5:30–9:30 pm. As with most places, expect changes around holidays; the phone number below is the fastest way to confirm. New York is in New York, in the Northeast, where four distinct seasons shape local life: hot humid summers, snowy winters that can close businesses for a day, and a dense pattern of towns where walking, transit and street parking all matter. Traffic in New York peaks on weekday mornings and afternoons, so allow extra time then. Addresses read from the street number up to the city, state abbreviation and five-digit ZIP code; the map link on this page shows the exact spot.

Almost everything about this meal was perfect. Sophie, one of the staff, was so warm and gracious. She gave me Indonesian travel recommendations and was very attentive. Bojan, the bartender, and another server were friendly, even sharing some new cocktail formulations (ube, beet, and Lillet?) for free. So kind! The food was so delicious that it reminded me of home and all the best things in the Pacific. It was all beautifully presented and craveworthy. The only part that dampened the experience was my interaction with one of the owners, Ochi. She was pretty rude and dismissive of me, making me feel ashamed and out of place. I couldn't wait to leave after my interaction with her. This makes me sad as I feel our people are renowned for their hospitality, but I felt pretty unwelcome after talking to her. Alas. I've been to Wayan before, and didn't have that experience. I still recommend the food, but not so much the interaction with ownership.

Interior design was beautiful, warm and intimate. Staff was friendly, efficient and helpful. I had a yuzu martini and the calamansi butterfish w/brussel sprouts The martini was great. I wish the butterfish tasted more/had any hint of calamansi in the dish, as I was looking forward to it. My friend told me her fried chicken was yummy.

Dinner at Ma-dé was such a delight! I truly didn't know what to expect here, but I was so pleasantly surprised with everything I had. Upon arrival, the interior is beautifully decorated and has a whimsical feeling. The padang dinner was exceptional with so many different dishes and flavors to try! The side dishes are a bit more vegetarian forward but I thoroughly enjoyed them. For choosing the main proteins, we did the lamb ribs and butterfish. Both were exquisite and so wonderfully tender. You won't leave hungry here! I will happily recommend this place for others to try and can't wait to return myself.

Incredible! We had the chefs tasting course experience and it was sooo good! The lamb ribs and fluke was the best! Also the eggplant and squash! The server Bojan was so genuine and kind! Also the decorations in the restaurant were stunning. I really appreciated the candles and flowers everywhere.

This is my third time here and oh my god everything just gets better. Tried their original menu (dumplings are a MUST) but LOOOVED their new Padang-style concept. Tried their Liwetan Feast during Restaurant Week in January & LOVED that too. As an Indonesian, Ma•dé really SERVED all the dishes. Elevated, but surely a fantastic introduction to Indonesian cuisine. And don’t get me started on their desserts. Although the cookies remind me of the ones I had back home as a child, the pandan crepes (dadar gulung) and passionfruit sorbet stole the show. Will definitely be back to try their spring & brunch menu!!! Heard VERY GOOD things on their lamb ribs 🥰
